“… we are on an even more dangerous track to an increase of 6°C <11°F>…. Delaying action is a false economy: for every $1 of investment in cleaner technology that is avoided in the power sector before 2020, an additional $4.30 would need to be spent after 2020 to compensate for the increased emissions.”

3. The elephant in the room is China with all their new, shiny coal fired electrical plants

They are investing heavily in clean technologies but will be in no way interested in cutting their emissions until that research matures and becomes available on an industrial scale.

The US is being dragged along kicking and screaming as pure economics cause people to turn in their gas guzzling dinosaurs in favor of more efficient gas, electric, or hybrid vehicles. Power plants here are usually dual fuel and only burn nasty coal when there's a glitch in or a price spike in natural gas. CFLs and energy star appliances are starting to be favored over 1950s technology.

In related news, the Robber Baron lost his gas station and the new owner dropped the price from $3.39 to $3.06. Last night, it was down to $2.96.

with high oil prices before we can deploy some of the 'sexy' technologies for GHG reductions. GOP is always ready to pounce on every effort by the Dems to commit to responsible, proactive public policies. (I said before, since the GOP are so good at stopping anything, we should have put THEM down BP's leaking hole in the Gulf. That would have solved two problems at once!)
