Gov't: Effect of Greenhouse Gases Rising

WASHINGTON - The effect of greenhouse gases on the Earth's atmosphere has increased 20 percent since 1990, a new government index says.

The Annual Greenhouse Gas Index was released Tuesday by the Climate Monitoring and Diagnostics Laboratory in Boulder, Colo.

The Earth's average temperature increased about 1 degree Fahrenheit during the 20th century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns that continuing increases could have serious effects on crops, glaciers, the spread of disease, rising sea levels and other changes.

The index was set to a reading of 1 as of 1990 and the lab said it is currently 1.20, indicating an increase of 20 percent.

The military sucks up non-renewable resources like crazy and pollutes even more. I loathe to think of those decommissioned plutonium processing plants around the country. And the way those Navy ships toss all their trash and human/medical waste overboard is just disgusting. They spill oil, jet fuel, and who knows what else into the sea. They weight down the trash so it supposedly goes to the bottom, but it doesn't always work out that way.

My friend who worked on the Nuke carrier told me about how they went to Marmaris, Turkey so they held in the sewage for the couple of days they were anchored. As soon as they got underway they pumped out the sewage pipes - he said their was a brown "shit slick" for miles behind them in the turqoise waters. :puke:
