Wind turbine maker Suzlon has been hit with a $490,000 fine by authorities in Minnesota over environmental violations at one of its plants in the US state.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) says the Indian wind equipment group has agreed to meet the fine, which relates to a 2009 inspection of its Suzlon Rotor division's blade-production facility in Pipestone.
Suzlon has "agreed to resolve air quality, hazardous waste, solid waste, and stormwater violations at its wind turbine blade manufacturing plant in Pipestone," the MPCA says.
The state body cites sand-blasting operations that “far exceeded” emissions regulations for airborne particles and a failure to properly handle hazardous waste among the list of environmental breaches it uncovered.
