http://www.mpbn.net/News/MaineHeadlineNews/tabid/968/ctl/ViewItem/mid/3479/ItemId/19324/Default.aspxGov. Paul LePage says efficiency and conservation efforts should be part of the strategy to reduce Maine's heavy dependence on oil for home heating. But LePage says he is upset at the way state energy conservation programs are working.
He says energy audits of homes are often done without regard to whether the homeowner can pay for the recommended weatherization efforts.
"Conservation is just a--it's another word for 'Ponzi scheme,' in many respects," LePage told Capitol News Service. "And what I mean by that is not that conservation is bad--conservation is very, very good, if you do it appropriately."

Efficiency Maine Director Mike Stoddard says more than 3,200 Maine residents weatherized their homes last year through Efficiency Maine's program, which he says does not pay for the cost of energy audits.
