The energization of the Clean Power Income Fund's Erie Shores Wind Farm in southern Ontario was successfully accomplished on the afternoon of March 6, 2006, marking the initial stage of the commissioning process to begin electricity production and sales.
Four environmentally preferred technologies -- hydro, wind power, biomass and landfill gas recovery -- delivered approximately 1.6 million MWh of electricity in 2004, almost exclusively under long-term sales contracts, at minimal to zero fuel cost.
With power flowing from the Hydro One grid to energize the new wind power project, Erie Shores can now test completed wind turbines and start selling clean power via the Independent Electricity System Operator to Ontario customers.
Clean Power began construction of the 99 MW wind power project in July 2005. To date, 27 of the project's GE SLE 1.5MW turbines have been erected -- 40 percent of the total of 66 wind turbines that will make up the Erie Shores Wind Farm. All equipment has been delivered and is stored on site, ready for the ongoing installations.
