H2PIA Concept For World's First Hydrogen City Released (Denmark)
http://www.fuelcellsworks.com/Supppage4882.html

A group of Danish companies and institutions has just released a visionary concept called H2PIA for the building of the world's first hydrogen city ever, beginning year 2007 somewhere in Denmark.

H2 Logic, the leading Danish hydrogen & fuel cell technology company, has functioned as co-developer on the project delivering know-how about hydrogen technology and participated in developing the city concepts.

For many hydrogen is well-known as a "far out" future solution to the increasing challenge of supplying clean and sustainable energy when fossils fuels become even more expensive than today. For some skeptics hydrogen is even seen as an almost utopia technology surrounded with and based on pure hype only, basically a future that won't become real before after year 2050.

H2PIA is challenging this view on hydrogen by releasing the vision for the world's first hydrogen city ever. Based on existing hydrogen and fuel cell technology the building of H2PIA can actually begin in year 2007, and thereby become an early stepping stone towards the future hydrogen economy.

3. Didn't Donald Fagen just say it all?

Here at home we'll play in the city
Powered by the sun
Perfect weather for a streamlined world
There'll be spandex jackets one for everyone

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(More leisure time for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young

from "I.G.Y" off of "The Nightfly" 1982

He's currently out on his first solo tour, and he's doing this tune. My sad thought was that it's about a future that never happened. And his new album has many references to "the thuggish cult in charge of the government," as he calls it in the liner notes ("Morph the Cat").

4. The song of course was ironic.
IGY was the International Geophysical Year, which was 1957-1958, the age of techno-optimism supreme, "2001" and all that, colonies on the moon by the 21st century.

I have always loved Fagen's song. It cuts right to the bone and sums the matter perfectly.

What a beautiful world, indeed.
