German Nuclear plant owners lose keys (to security areas )
German nuclear power station officials have admitted losing the keys to top security areas within their own plant.

The Philippsburg nuclear plant in Germany is now under investigation after owners reported that they have been searching for the keys to vital areas around the reactors since March 10.

The plant is run by German company EnBW, which reportedly took an entire week to inform the authorities about the loss of the keys.

Prosecutors have opened an investigation "against unknown perpetrators" for theft ...

1. Chinese coal mining authorities admit to losing 4,000 lives in 2004.
The real figures are apparently much higher than they admitted.

Of course, jejune mystics don't follow the Chinese authorities around to see if they have their keys in their pockets. They just rail on pretending that, unlike much more dangerous forms of energy, only nuclear energy (the world's safest) must be risk free.

2. Philippsburg is a rustbucket
Infamous for it's lax security. Say whatever you want, a mismanaged nuke is hardly the most secure form of energy. One misstep in one plant can cause trillions of damage.

This plant is a 70s boiling water reactor; in the past decade it got attention twice: once, when plutonium was stolen. There were several people hurt by the radiation.
The second time when inspectors found the emergency shutdown mechanism disabled; the plant ran for years without a way to shut it down, on the orders of the owner.

3. So lax nuclear security and operators' secrecy saves coal miners lives?

5. So lax attention to the base cost of energy saves lives?
Your effort is to close nuclear power plants, not to make them more secure. That is dangerous. That will cost lives. When a nuclear plant is shut, it's output is replaced by fossil fuels.

No one has ever been killed by lax security at a nuclear power plant. There are no incidents of deaths by secrecy from deaths of nuclear power plants.

People have been killed by lax security connected with fossil fuels. Maybe you didn't hear about it, but terrorists have struck the United States because they were angry about the politics of fossil fuels. They did not strike because they were unhappy about loose bolts at nuclear power stations.

(By the way, smart guy, if this nuclear scare story is such a big secret, how is it exactly that you are posting the information on the internet? Oh, I see, although you cannot do simple energy comparisons like say, this one: www.externe.info, you have special intelligence.)

There are deaths from coal and air pollution, millions of them in fact, and many millions more are certain to come now that global climate change is upon us. But what is the most important message about energy according to you? They don't phone you immediately every time a bolt comes loose at a nuclear power plant.

6. It's true a few's got loose screws:
Loose screw halts nuclear plant
23 December, 2003

... The search involved dismantling the nuclear core with remote-controlled machines in a sealed cell, and using cameras to peer into inaccessible areas ...

Apparently some folk take loose screws seriously ...
