What is the future of the hybrid tax credit?
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 02:10 PM by wuushew
My parents are considering replacing their 1999 Avalon with a hybrid Camry.

I know Toyota is running out of its credit allotments fairly soon. Will it be renewed?

1. Not under Bush and this Congress. You will save money on gas, and
your only other hope is to elect a Democratic Congress.

2. Contrary opinion- I think they will be renewed
As a matter of "NATIONAL SECURITY = ENERGY INDEPENDENCE" - and it has to be sold that way. (= is the symbol for "identically equal")

I think we will see two major changes:
    1. The credit will be extended to ultra high mileage gasoline cars (remember the old Crosley?)

    2. There will be some kind of weight adjustment (we can't just let General Motors die can we - just pull the plug on General Motors like they did on the electric car?) - so that a two ton SUV that gets 25 mpg will get a similar tax break to a one ton econon car that gets 50 mpg.

3. I think it may last till June 30 in any case.

IIRC the break applied to the end of the quarter in which the allotment ran out, or maybe there was a three-month grace period -- something like that. I'd get it in writing from the dealer in any case.

(EDIT: I hear it is based on the VIN)
