The National Resource Defense Council is trying to raise money to purchase development rights on the last gray whale sanctuary.

The Audubon Society did something very similar back home in Illinois. There is a place called Plum Island near Starved Rock State Park in Ottawa, IL. For years, people came to Starved Rock to watch the Bald Eagles that nested on the Island. Then, the owners decided to sell to a developer. The Audubon Society began a fund raising campaign, and managed to convince the owner to sell to them instead of the developer.

I think this is a great cause that can make a permanent difference. I just wanted to share it with everyone here.
