55 degrees in Burlington Vermont
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 12:01 PM by garybeck
WTF?

It should be about 15 degrees right now. We should have had at least one cold snap that went to 10 or 15 below zero. We should have a couple feet of snow on the ground.

None of the above. Just an extended Fall. Any snow that falls is usually gone the next day. Last ngiht at 7pm I was outside in my t-shirt and slippers. It was a clear night, which usually means cold, but it was warm.

WTF?

1. Jiminy Peak ski area is actually CLOSING today at 4:00
They had virtually covered the entire mountain with man-made snow, but it can't hold up to 69 degree temps. There isn't a mountain in New England that's 100% open right now. And there will be a LOT LESS after the next few days, cuz the temps aren't dropping below mid-forties until next week.

.

2. And our third consecutive weekly snowstorm here in Denver.
Outside, it's 23 degrees with a high wind blowing and a lot of snow. Up to 8 inches should fall today. The low tonight is 2 below zero.

I've lived in Denver for 17 years, and I've never seen anything like it. It's like living in the movie Groundhog Day.

3. Wasn't this discussed in Invonvenient Truth?
I seem to remember a discussion of how storms will be more intense but also more localized - like some ares will get more than normal and others less.

5. Yeah...because of a greater amount of moisture coming from the glaciers?
I can definately see this happening in the Rocky Mountains. Its what it is already like but, by the time I retire, we could have 90 degree temps one day in January and 5 feet the next.

Although, an "Inconvient Truth" sounds like the title of an abstinece film.

4. Yeah. When I was in Boulder, they got 40 inches of snow. That was really fun.
I live in Laramie and we have about a foot on the ground after it snowed about 2 inches last night. However, when I was in Cleveland, the grass is green and I only like a dozen snowflakes. It could just be El Nino. We had almost no Atlantic Hurricane season and last year it would be 50 and dry as a bone here....we are actually getting winter this year. Although it was really phucked up in Pueblo the last couple of years. It would be 70 degrees in the dead of winter. I was like "HOLY SHIT ITS AS WARM AS A NORTH FLORIDA WINTER".

6. Birds are singing in Iowa for god's sake
I walked out the door this morning to the trilling of birds! They should be in their condos in Florida by now. I think it's around 50 or so. Has been for weeks.

I bought my son a new snowboard, boots, binding and a seasons pass to the local ski area - which is a GUARANTEE of no snow for the year

8. Spring-like in Northern Illinois

I went out and stirred the compost pile today....in a sweatshirt.

This isn't January, it's late March....at least it seems like it.

Cheers
