Temperatures rise, oil prices fall, buyers save (Maine)
http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/news/state/070108heatingoil.html

That sound New Englanders are hearing in their basements -- the sound of silence as their oil-burning furnaces sit idle -- is saving them money as heating oil consumption drops with this season's warm temperatures.

Phyllis Bowie's furnace at her Buxton home has been kicking on just a fraction of what it would in a normal winter. She estimates that her oil consumption is down by more than 100 gallons so far because of the mild weather.

That adds up to more than $200 in savings.

"We usually try to top off our tank when prices drop," Bowie said. "But we haven't even had to do that for a month."

1. Well there you go, then. Everything's just fine!
I think I'm gonna buy me a new Hummer to celebrate.

Frankly, more winters like this may give us a chance to realize that our natural gas supply is in trouble, before thousands of us freeze to death because we can't heat our homes. Of course most of those deaths will just be Canadians and Minnesotans so who really cares, but it's the principle of the thing, doncha know.

3. A negative feedback - yes???
Lower fuel oil consumption

Fewer trips to the ski slopes

No snowmobiling (or snowmobile trailering)

No ice fishing

less CO2 released to the atmosphere

climate warming abated

problem solved

5. It's a different product than heating oil and natural gas.
Diesel, though, I think has it's prices closer tied to heating oil.
