HALIFAX (CP) - Halifax Regional Municipality is going to buy up to 25 gigawatt hours of electricity a year for the next 20 years from two wind-generation power companies.

Officials say it's a hedge against rising electricity costs that could meet up to 40 per cent of the municipality's energy needs by 2008. Estimated savings run between $8.3 million and $28 million over the life of the contracts with Barrington Wind Energy Ltd. and Ventus Energy Inc.
