Prince Charles - World Looking To US For Climate Leadership - Guardian
Sorry, Charlie - if so, they're going to be disappointed.

The world is looking to America for leadership in the fight against climate change, Prince Charles said today, as he accepted an award for his work for the environment. The prince, who angered green groups by flying to the US to collect the award, told an audience including ex-Beatle John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, that it was up to governments to help and encourage companies to reduce their emissions.

Accepting the 10th Global Environmental Citizen award from Harvard Medical School's centre for health and the global environment, the prince said: "Our successors will pay most dearly for our dilatoriness and inaction as it is, but we surely owe it to them to take urgent steps now - not just by 2020."

EDIT

The prince received the award from last year's winner, Al Gore, who described him as "a leader and a thought leader" who "has brought together people to think and then to act".

Mr Gore told the prince: "Your decision to speak out no matter whether the reactions are negative or positive - you have been able to make a tremendous difference." Previous winners have included actor Harrison Ford and conservationist Jane Goodall.

4. an excuse to do nothing
Europe should not expect the unwilling to lead
...
a little off topic but,
European Carbon allowances, trading at 2.30 Euros.
they really need to fix that.

5. I don't think Bush needs an excuse ...
Whilst I agree that no-one should expect the US to lead until your
government has been replaced, I think the point is that the third
world nations will show little interest in restraining themselves
for the sake of the future when they can look at the shining example
being set by GWB Inc.

(OT: Carbon trading is a big con trick intended to keep the gamblers
happy and shut up the damn environmentalists whilst not actually
improving anything.)

7. Europe needs the excuse, not the US
if you believve in polls,
the people of Europe stongly support
limits on carbon, while
people in the US have mixed feelings.

NINE Years after Kyoto,
Europe has done next to nothing.

a carbon-reduction sucess story is needed,
what we have is business as usual.
Yet the people who would appear to have the strongest
domestic support, did nothing.

not that I expect anything in the near term.
Canada, Germany, helpless minority gov'ts
France, election soon.
UK, Blair is being thrown out by his own party
Spain,Italy, appear disinterested
