A Northwest Missouri town sparks fame, thanks to its recent mega kilowatt purchase. Rock Port may be the first town in the nation to produce its own energy, and then some.

The sky`s the limit for Rock Port residents, excited about being named number one.

"Hopefully we can be the number one renewable county in the world," Roger Pennel, R & L Country Fresh Meat, said.

The city will soon generate 100 percent of its power through wind mills like the ones in King City.

1. This is good news and something perhaps
we should all pass along to our local elected officials as a concept. I would like nothing more than to stick it in the ear of our esteemed Ameren UE here in the St. Louis area for their inept management leaving us without power for multiple days on four separate occasions in 2006.

of important things, like ENERGY SELF-SUFFICIENCY.

That this is happening in MO, of all places, gives me real hope. Maybe a little friendly competition among communities for who can become self-suffcient first, and for less cost, is a good thing.

3. We need a National Energy Independence Day! Celebrate w/CFLs & Solar, Windmills & Insulation Install
DIY classes on how to make your home more energy efficient, install solar panels, water catchment to collect water for gardens, permaculture gardening (growing own food instead of transporting it 3000 miles for a salad), etc. Get volunteers to fix up the homes of low income, elderly & disabled with CFLs, weatherstripping, water pipe wrapping, etc. call 'em the Green Squad :) Things like that.
