Subendu Guha, the company's president and chief operating offi cer, said Thursday he expected the company to grow by 100 percent per year through 2010 as it expands its manufacturing capacity.
James R. Metzger, interim president and chief operating officer of ECD Ovonics, United Solar's parent company, said United Solar's payroll also is expected to almost double from 700 now to 1,300 by the end of 2008. Some of the hiring will be at United Solar's new plants in Mexico and China but the majority of the new jobs will be in Michigan, he said.
Moreover, the company's research and development efforts, which have generated dozens of patents over the years, will remain in Michigan.
