Toronto Sun: Green Trains Lack Cash

It's a $2-billion green rapid transit plan of 80 km of dedicated rail lines throughout Toronto without any dedicated green to pay for them.

But it is a comprehensive Toronto Transit City strategy to be outlined today that if completed would change the very face of commuting in the city upon completion in the next two decades.

"It's not pie in the sky," insisted TTC chairman and wonderboy Adam Giambrone last night. "But can I say we have all of the money to pay for it? No."

He said it will take help from the federal and provincial levels of government for that. In fact, a significant amount of the money they hope to get from taxes on gasoline and from Prime Minister Stephen Harper's new $2-billion National Transit Strategy.

"It's a pragmatic approach," Giambrone said, adding you plan it and then "figure out how to pay for it." .....(more)
