"U.S. Decries Key Points at Climate Talks"
BERLIN (AP) - The United States objected to key parts of a discussion on climate change at a meeting between G-8 environmental officials and representatives from five influential developing nations, Germany's environment minister said.

The conference ended with consensus on several points, including a general acceptance of the scientific explanation for the causes of global warming and that industrialized nations need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions more than mandated by current agreements, said German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel, who hosted the meeting Saturday.

Officials also agreed that industrialized countries have been responsible for most greenhouse gas emissions in the past and for the need to help developing countries control their emissions today, Gabriel said.

But the U.S. spoke out against a global carbon emissions trading plan and recognizing reforestation programs in developing nations as part of the fight against global warming, he said.

1. The G-8 environmental officials should throw the USA out of the meetings.............
and go forward without THEM. Until bushco is out of office, the USA government will not be capable of any positive contributions to the climate change cause.

2. The Bush admin "acknowledges" global warming but not the urgency to something about it.
It's disappointing when your EPA chief sings in perfect harmony
with Big Oil. They both still insist that cutting carbon emissions
will hurt business. Now that the science can't be denied, they
insist that the economists need to be listened to before we all
do something rash.

Hello folks! The economists outside Big Oil say that environmental
damage costs money, do something about it. Their voices are
getting louder all the time.

3. Against reforestation???
"But the U.S. spoke out against ... recognizing reforestation programs in developing nations as part of the fight against global warming, he said."

Okay, I'm not really surprised about them being against the carbon emissions trading plan, but recognizing reforestation programs?

WTF is wrong with these idiots?!?

:wtf:

4. reforestation allows Europeans to pollute more
Europeans are interested in carbon offsets from dubious
reforestation projects, allowing 'business as usual'
in Europe.

a similiar thing is heard in the US
when a celebrity with a huge-carbon-lifestyle
claims to be carbon neutral.
