http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=18110930&BRD=1719&PAG=461&dept_id=25271&rfi=6ALTON - The company that has proposed installing a hydroelectric generating unit at the Melvin Price Locks and Dam 26 on the Mississippi River can proceed with designing it, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Wednesday.
The corps has concluded a legal agreement with Price Dam Partnership Ltd. to move ahead on designing a hydroelectric power generating plant at the dam at Alton. Price Dam Partnership has obtained a permit and license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Corps officials said the agreement does not guarantee the project actually will be built. However, it allows the partnership to proceed on detailed investigation and design of a hydroelectric power plant at Mel Price - and on construction, if feasible.

The proposed 92-megawatt plant could produce 319,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year. The company would sell the electricity to utilities.
