It cost him thousands of dollars to install but it will pay off over the years, both financially and environmentally, says Malcolm Ruby.

The midtown homeowner is the first in his neighbourhood to install a rootop solar panel.

St. Paul’s Councillor Michael Walker recently nominated Ruby for the Green Toronto Awards, which recognize individuals, organizations and businesses who make concerted efforts to go green and reduce consumption.

Ruby is now in the midst of completing paperwork to apply for an incentive program provided by the Ontario Power Authority under the Standard Offer Program, which will pay him 42 cents for every kilowatt hour produced through the solar system.

2. A serious government would finance over 90% of the cost.
Either we are fighting global warming or we aren't. We aren't. We are fighting "terror" which is nothing compared to the threat of global warming. NOTHING. The money spent on Iraq should have gone to financing solar panels from one end of this nation to the other.
