I am encouraged by the response to the petition that has been in my signature for over a month now. I mailed it to Mr. Gore's office this week to show him the global response it has gotten so far, and to let him know that people around the world care for this planet and for being climate messengers by being good stewards of this planet. The petition is ongoing, so if you would like to also pledge to be a climate messenger and work together to face this crisis now click on the link in my signature. I am also posting the letter I sent to Mr. Gore to share with those here who were kind enough to sign this petition. Thank you very much. You just helped to plant trees in Niger that will offer sustinence to this planet and its people.

Dear Mr. Gore;
This letter comes to you with the hope that what many of us are trying to do to mitigate the effects of climate change will be successful and in time. Accompanying this letter is a petition I began to have people pledge to be climate messengers with the intent of sending it to you to show you the support your endeavors have in the Internet community. It was seen by the project administrator of Tree –Nation, a good site working with the UNEP and their tree planting initiative and other environmental efforts. The goal of this site is to plant 8 million trees in the shape of a heart in Niger to mitigate deforestation and poverty. When the administrator saw my petition he wrote to tell me that he was interested in sponsoring it, and I was very happy to join him in his cause.
As you well know Mr. Gore, the poor in this world are and will be feeling the affects of climate change more than those in developed countries. Niger is just one example of many countries in Africa and Asia experiencing devastating droughts which have led to famine and severe water shortages caused partly by deforestation. The mission of this initiative is to give hope and love to an area of the world all but forgotten. My heart is in this very deeply, and if I had the means to go to Africa myself and plant those trees I would do it. However, being able to have this good organization plant a tree in Niger for every one hundred signatures on this petition has already had five trees planted along the way to that 8 million, and it fills my heart with hope.
I am then forwarding this petition to you as it stands one month after being implemented by Tree –Nation as a tribute to your tireless and selfless work on this crisis as our Global Environmental Ambassador and to also show you that without any partisan political predisposition people from all over this world are pledging to change their lives to save their planet.
I am actually so very gratified to see signatures on this petition not only from the U.S., but from so many other countries including Iran and Oman, Israel, Turkey, Italy, France, Spain, Canada, Australia, India, Belgium, Germany, etc. I believe wholeheartedly that this truly is a global effort that will not only require our own Congress coming into the 21st Century, but people all over this world forging a new cooperation to head off what the IPCC has stated is even worse than we think.
I hope you appreciate that you truly have inspired people all over the world to act, including myself. My 16 year old son signed this petition as well and has been following what I am doing and it is affecting him. Just the other day he came to me after giving the petition to his Science teacher who signed it (they also watched An Inconvenient Truth in his class due to my loaning them my copy,) and told me that he is so proud to have a mother who is teaching him to be responsible and one who loves this planet so much.. I need not tell you that the tears streamed from my eyes upon his telling me that. That Mr. Gore is my purpose in life, as I do believe it is yours. This truly does surpass politics in so many ways even though we need that process to exact change on a legislative level… But what it ultimately comes down to in the end is us.
That is why I am doing this, why I am talking to people about this on my own, why I donated to The Climate Project, why I applied to it previously, and why I continue to support your endeavors on this front wholeheartedly, because without us progress will not happen. Thank you for giving us inspiration and the opportunity to put this crisis in the forefront where it belongs regardless of those who would see it kept in the dark.
I have hope in trees and in the ingenuity of the human mind and spirit. I just truly hope we can join together globally to face this now and look beyond the political rhetoric that is slowing progress down. For me this petition was a start and will be ongoing.
