Saudis Release Five Held at Guantanamo

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- Five Saudis who were held at the U.S military
base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before they were handed over to Saudi
security officials, have been released, the Saudi Interior Ministry
said Tuesday.

The Saudi Press Agency quoted an unnamed official as saying the five
were released after they underwent "the regular procedures and
completed the prison terms which they received according to court
verdicts."

The report did not name the five, say when they were handed to Saudi
authorities or for how long they were detained in Guantanamo and in
Saudi jails.

Last month, the United States released three Saudi men from
Guantanamo to Saudi custody.

1. A deal, or turning them over to torture?

One of the aspects which lead to Sept 11 was an early 2001 decision, by Cheney, to ease up on the intelligence monitoring of Saudi citizens in the US.

Which was one of the contributing factors in the ability of Al Qaeda to hit America.

But is this motivated to put them into the custody of a country which permits torture, or well connected Saudi boys getting released because of family connections (something Bush would CERTAINLY understand)?
