Japan's Jm-t "LDP" Leadership Race- any major factional differences?
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 07:06 AM by CocaCola58204
Are there any major idealogical differences between the factions of the Jiyu Minshu-to, the "Liebral Demorat" party? And how will this Leadership Race be fought?

Edit: Corrected Japanese Spelling

1. From what I've been able to gather
during my many years in Japan, is that the factions are mostly similar in ideology, by differ in who they want to install in the Cabinet, should their man get the prime minister's chair. Once in a while, there is a truly reform-minded faction, like that of former PM Kaifu, but once they actually try to start implementing meaningful reform, they quickly find themselves on the outside looking in.

2. On a side note
The LDP (Jiyu-Minshu-to) is a result of the merger of the Jiyu and Minshu parties of many years ago. In recent years, a new Jiyu Party, and a new Minshu Party, have risen up from the ashes of other parties and factions. And guess what? Once again, a Jiyu Party is talking of merging with a Minshu Party.

It's all so confusing

3. Thanks
My usage of the Japanese terms is just a way to avoid saying that the JM-t is Liberal or Democratic (small-d or big), which it is neither while still reflecting the name of the party.
