Bolton's Khrushchev Comment - Is Russia A Rogue Nation?

I was watching the UN debate regarding sanctions against North Korea. Towards the end of the debate, after North Korea's ambassador exited, Bolton made the following analogy:

"Pointing at the seat, he called Pak's angry exit from the chamber ``the contemporary equivalent of Nikita Khrushchev pounding his shoe on the desk of the General Assembly," referring to the Soviet leader's act of protest at the UN General Assembly in 1960.

That drew a retort from Vitaly Churkin, Russia's UN ambassador, who warned that ``even in an emotional state, not to use inappropriate analogies."

I still can't figure why Bolton would draw an analogy between Russia and North Korea. Was it just another stupid, emotional outburst by John Bolton? Or, was this analogy planned as a means of appeasing the extreme right who still consider the Russians a menace? Perhaps Bolton is suggesting that Russia is due for inclusion in the axis of evil. Afterall, didn't Ronald Reagan once outlaw the Soviet Union?

Is it stupidity or extremism or both?

Like the shoe pounding, storming out of the Assembly is just more bluster and diplomatic theatrics. Kind of like Colin Powell waving around W's coke vial and calling it a WMD.

4. Dolton is simply trying to discredit what Mr. Pak had to say.

There is nothing deeper in it, and it's a poor analogy. He just reached out and grabbed the first thing he could think of - mentally - that suited his purpose.

6. I'm suprised when Bolton says something appropriate

he's a cold war ideologue. When he get's pissed at someone he calls them a communist.

7. From the pats on the back that Bolton got when the session

ended, I don't doubt that he dropped that analogy on purpose. He certainly showed no remorse, much less apologized for it.

I think the Bush* administration is about ready to take on Russia as the next bad guy. Just in time for the 2008 election.

his flame baiting...i think the man cannot speak without inflammatory remarks. he lusts for anger and the angry reaction.
