MOGADISHU, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Somali Islamists on Monday dismissed
as fake two letters purportedly signed by their most influential leader
and which led to a U.S. warning of possible suicide attacks in Kenya
and Ethiopia.
Washington issued its warning to U.S. citizens on Nov 2 in response
to what it said were "terrorist threats emanating from extremist
elements within Somalia".
The Kenyan Sunday Nation newspaper reported it had obtained two
letters said to be signed by Islamist leader Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys,
who appears on U.S. and U.N. terrorism lists, but could not establish
their authenticity.

Even in the copy we saw, they could not get the letterhead right,"
Ibrahim Hassan Addow, in charge of foreign affairs for the Islamists,
told Reuters.
