Suspicious packages destroyed in Palm Desert
By Ria Taormina
NewsChannel 3

Two suspicious suitcases blown to shreds. It made for a huge scene outside a Palm Desert fire station today. It all started around 10 this morning at the fire station at the corner of Portola and Country Club.

A woman dropped off two suitcases at the front door to the North Palm Desert fire station this morning, just before 10. They were considered suspicious packages.

The displaced firefighters looked on as loud booms rang out. The bomb squad brought in their robot, first on scene to check things out with its camera, before members of the squad go in.

The robot forcibly opened each suspicious package, where only clothing was found.

Frank Anderson, who dealt with explosive devices for nearly 40 years, says people shouldn't just leave packages without explanations.
