Suspicious package delays Braddock Rd. station opening

ALEXANDRIA, Va. Some northern Virginia commuters have been running into delays this morning because of a police investigation at Metrorail's Braddock Road station that has caused problems on Metro's Yellow and Blue line trains.
The Braddock Road station was still not open by 6:30 because of a suspicious package found near the entrance to the station. Metro Transit Police officers and Alexandria police officers are investigating the incident.

Metrorail spokeswoman Cathy Asato says trains were passing through the Braddock Road station without stopping. Metro was setting up shuttle bus service.

1. Evidently there was no bomb-sniffing dog available
to check the package out. That station is near here. There are tons of government, military and major professional associations around here.

No Bomb Dog On-Duty When Suspicious Luggage Found
Jan 31st - 11:32am

Neal Augenstein, WTOP Radio

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The Alexandria Police Department did not have a bomb-sniffing dog on-duty and apparently neither did neighboring jurisdictions when suspicious luggage was found outside the gates of the Braddock Road Metro station early Wednesday.

Alexandria Police Lt. James Bartlett tells WTOP Alexandria officers arrived at 3:09 a.m. and agreed with a Metro worker's assessment that the two suitcases and a backpack found near the bus waiting area of the Metro station were suspicious.

Police immediately tried to find a bomb-sniffing dog. Alexandria's nearest bomb dog was off-duty and at home in Woodbridge.
