Suspicious package causes a scare
Kornitzer Capital Management, an investment and brokerage firm in Mission, was evacuated this afternoon as authorities investigated a suspicious package received by an employee.
Mission police said the small box was crudely wrapped, with no return address and a dozen postage stamps. The Olathe Fire Department sent hazmat technicians and equipment to the scene. A robot retrieved the box, which was detonated.
It turned out to be a personal gift that was not explosive or dangerous.
However, police Maj. Mark Sullivan said the company had been on alert for such packages because similar businesses have been targeted in recent weeks.
