The Ministry of National Defense declined to comment yesterday on a local newspaper report which claimed Taiwan and the United States have set up a telephone hot line to cope with possible military crises in the Taiwan Strait.
MND spokesman Major General Huang Suey-sheng (黃穗生) said it is the MND's established policy to refrain from publicly discussing any Taiwan-U.S. military exchanges or cooperative programs.
"We have no comment on this report," Huang said in MND's routine press conference yesterday.
Huang added that Taiwan-U.S. exchanges have generally proceeded smoothly under the framework of the Taiwan Relations Act - the U.S. law that regulates relations with Taiwan in the absence of official diplomatic ties.
