Envelope Contained Legal Briefs
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- About 200 employees of the Jackson County Courthouse were evacuated Friday afternoon because a suspicious package was found.
KMBC's Maria Antonia reported that the large envelope was addressed to a Jackson County judge and was marked "personal and confidential." The judge's assistant thought it was suspicious because no one knew how the package had been delivered or what it contained.
The building was evacuated as a precaution, officers said.
Police blocked off the streets around the courthouse for several hours while a bomb crew investigated.
Antonia reported that officers took the package outside and used a bomb robot to check it out.
The package turned out to contain legal briefs.
