White House trades new weapons to support troops

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House plans to shift $3.2 billion in defense
spending -- partly from new weapons like the Lockheed Martin Corp. F-35 Joint
Strike Fighter -- to support troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, a trade publication
reported on Monday.

In a letter to Congress detailing revised plans for its fiscal 2007 emergency
wartime spending request, the White House said it would reduce spending on
three aircraft programs by $923 million, freeing up money for armor kits and
transport vehicles needed by U.S. troops.

The letter was obtained and released by insidefense.com on Monday.

2. It is not an economic trade to replace a commitment to spens over many years for next months bills -

this just increases the deficit this year but with a cover story.

Is our media so stupid as to not know this - to not mention this will increase in the deficit - has no Democrat told them about the accounting that is occurring -or are the Democrats wanting to go along with the pretend trade so they can pretend their "pay-go" rules for taming the deficit are being obeyed?

3. I can no longer tell what the Democrats are up to.

Sometimes I think that they are only positioning themselves for the '08 elections, but even if that is what they are doing, educating the public as to what is really going on would seem to be in their favor. But I can no longer grasp what Democrats consider "their favor"...
