Burundi mayor assassinated

Bujumbura - The mayor of a commune in central Burundi was shot dead early Saturday just a day after he took up the job, officials told AFP.

Raphael Nzinahora, named the top adminstrative official in Giheta commune, was killed by "a group of armed men, some of them in uniform, others in civilian clothes, who broke down his door, brought him outside and shot him," Gitega Provincial Governor Tharcisse Ntibarirarana told AFP.
