Just realized something re: Pelosi v Bush41
Pelosi's trip to Syria to try to open dialogues (re: Iran) was open and covered extensively ...

and yet ...

Bush41's negotiations with Iran, which were revealed in the "Iran-Contra" hearings, was treasonous and done behind closed doors and without the public's knowledge ...

2. I asked a related question too
Concerning Cheney's remark today about this sailor release establishing a precedent of quid pro quo if there was an exchange of some sort.

Was the 1979 hostage release a quid pro quo as part of Iran-Contra? I never knew if they were directly related or simply concurrent.

3. OK, out on a historic limb...
I find GHWB's founding of the 'safari club' in 1976 or so to be very interesting in terms of the 'hostage crisis 1'timeline. The safari club was a private meeting place for spooks especially those involved with sponsoring, training and financing the extremist groups such as the mujahadeen (now taliban..)ostensibly for the purpose of giving the invading russians their 'own vietnam'. I have wondered how much influence these guys had...did they perhaps contribute to the embassy takeover to embarass Carter? Did they give Carter poor intelligence that led to the colossal and embarassing failure of the rescue attempt? They certainly held up the release of the hostages to make Carter look like an impotent fool...GHWB was certainly in a position to hide intelligence from Carter. There is an old story, probably apocryphal, about Carter asking GHWB for any availible files on UFO's and GHWB telling him that the president did not have a high enough clearance to see the docs. Even if it isn't true, the story might be a good illustration of GHWB's attitude toward Carter and the dems.
