Man arrested for trespassing and leaving suspicious packages at Marvin Center in D.C.
WEB UPDATE: MPD responds to suspicious package in Marvin Center
by Brandon Butler
Senior News Editor
Issue date: 4/9/07 Section: News

The Marvin Center's fifth floor was evacuated for about an hour Monday afternoon when the Metropolitan Police Department's bomb squad responded to a suspicious package.

At about 4:45 p.m., MPD arrived at the building and arrested a man about an hour later for unlawful entry, said Matt Lindsay, assistant director of Media Relations. A man was barred from campus Monday and University Police Department officers saw him on campus again later in the day, Lindsay said.

"At some point that person said they left boxes in the Marvin Center," Lindsay said. "When investigated, they were found to be suspicious."

Lindsay said after UPD and MPD responded to the fifth floor where the man said he left his belongings, the two departments decided to call the bomb squad.

1. Hmm, seems to be a theme today! DU should get IanDB1 a tee shirt
One of those "I'm with the bomb squad. If you see me running, try to keep up" numbers would be just the ticket.

Curious about all this today. Are there lots of these things and we just miss them or is there a rush to test detection and response? Cheney needs to give the population a booster shot of "terrorists at your doorstep"?

Interesting day. Wish I could stay on the internet all day and see how it goes.

Thanks for the posts, IanDB1. Will look for updates later this evening. Keep us posted.

2. I'm catching up on posting from my RSS Feeds
Not so amazingly, it appears that there are more "suspicious packages" during the hours of 9-5, Monday through Friday.

4. I was thinking more along the lines of people conducting commerce and moving packages around. n/t
