Suspicious package found on transit bus

GLOUCESTER TWP. - A suspicious book bag on a New Jersey Transit bus caused all on board to evacuate it for almost three hours Saturday afternoon.
No injuries were reported, and after investigation, police determined that the book bag only contained books and personal effects.
At approximately 2:55 p.m., Gloucester Township Police received a phone call from a passenger reporting a suspicious book bag that had been left on the bus, which was traveling south on the Black Horse Pike. The bus had pulled to the shoulder at the intersection of Station Avenue in the Glendora section of the township.

Upon police arrival, both the driver and passengers had evacuated the bus, police said. Arriving officers set up a security perimeter around the bus.
With the assistance of the Camden County Fire Police, Deptford Fire Police and NJDOT Emergency Response Team, police shut down all traffic in the area and rerouted it around the scene. The Glendora and Runnemede Fire Departments - as well as the Gloucester Township EMS - responded to the incident as a precaution, police said.

The Black Horse Pike was shut down for approximately two and a half hours, police said. During that time, the Camden County Bomb Squad responded, entered the bus and determined that the book bag wasn't suspicious.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the owner forgot the book bag when they exited the bus, police said.
