A suspicious package found this afternoon on the campus of Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny turned out to be a box of about 500 condoms.
The unexpected, heavy package had no return address and about $8 of postage. It was found about 1:10 p.m. inside Building 2. Ankeny police and postal inspectors were called to investigate.
Several classrooms were evacuated as the package was x-rayed to see if it was a bomb, said Postal Inspector Sam Owens. They found the box was filled with about 500 condoms.
“As one officer said, ‘It must have been a lifetime supply,’” said Dan Ivis, a DMACC spokesman.

“As we get out more and more and start discussing to schools, business organizations on what to look for as far as suspicious parcels, people tend to call in more,” Owens said. “You see some strange things.”
