STAMFORD -- A suspicious package at a downtown construction site closed down a portion of Tresser Boulevard Friday morning, snarling traffic for several hours and disrupting the morning rush.
Tresser and Greyrock Place near the Stamford Town Center Mall were closed for about three hours while police investigated a suspicious object found at the southern end of the mall, where the former Filene's store is under construction.
A construction worker discovered an unusual pile covered in fabric shortly before 8 a.m. and called police, Stamford Police Department spokesman Lt. Sean Cooney said.
"It turned out to be several cinder blocks," Cooney said. "They determined it was non-explosive and not a danger and reopened the mall and reopened the
streets.
