Investigators in search of stolen weapons in Attleboro, Mass.
Edited on Tue May-01-07 07:13 AM by IanDB1
ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Federal agents are investigating the theft of several guns at an apartment in Attleboro.

<snip>

Now, the ATF is getting involved.

They're offering a $2,000 reward for anyone who can help police find the stolen weapons.

Police say the thieves swiped one AK-47, two AK-74s', a rifle with a scope attachment, a steel revolver, five semi-automatic handguns and 500 rounds of ammunition.

2. Not a real one, a civilian lookalike (for the -47 and -74).
The reporter should have made that clear. Possession of an actual AK-47 or AK-74 in this country is a 10-year Federal felony outside of the military or law enforcement, unless you have Federal authorization to possess (BATFE Form 4).

I own a civilian (non-automatic) AK-47 lookalike (SAR-1). The SAR-3 is a civilian AK-74 lookalike, and there are other varieties as well, I think.

The -74 and civilian lookalikes are roughly .22 caliber (5.45mm = .214), and are ballistically comparable to the old .222 Remington, I think. The -47 and civilian lookalikes are .30 caliber and are similar to .30-30 Winchester.
