Feds scanning bottled liquids at airports for explosives
LOS ANGELES -- Federal security workers have started using hand-held scanners to inspect bottled carry-on liquids for explosives at some of the nation's busiest airports, the government said Tuesday.

The Transportation Security Administration has finished testing the device at Miami International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. Testing is ongoing in Los Angeles, Detroit and Las Vegas, said agency spokesman Nico Melendez. Testing begins in Boston on Wednesday.

TSA expects to deploy about 200 of the devices at a number of airports around the country by October, Melendez said.

The technology, which detects explosive material in sealed bottles of liquid, only is used on passengers selected for secondary inspections before boarding.

1. Yeah, that 1 oz. bottle of contact lens solution sure is dangerous.
I'm sure I'm going to get some crap from the 'mandatory body cavity search and all your luggage travels on another plane' crowd.

The main purpose of most of the senseless "Rules" of what is and is not allowed is to intimidate the lined up sheep just wanting to get to their destination. That's all.

2. I am amazed at how complacent Americans are over
airport "security". I used to fly quite a bit. My travel was for pleasure and I loved it. I loved airports and flying itself. But no more. My only reason for flying today would be to visit my 91 year old mother. I quite flying in May of 2002 after the show bomber episode....I was appalled at the airport procedures. I feel sorry for people who have to fly for business. What a night mare that would be.

3. yep, me too... I enjoyed flying
now, however, thanks to TSA, it's become such a dehumanizing, fascist pogrom that I only fly if there's absolutely no other logistical way around it.

4. I agree totally.
Flying is a nightmare. As a little old lady I am always the one they pick out to thoroughy interrogate and sift through my luggage. All this while all manner of really scary passengers breeze by without a galnce. What a farce.
