Suspicious Package Prompts Christopher Newport University Evacuation

Just before noon Tuesday, the campus of Christopher Newport University was evacuated as a precaution because of a suspicious package.

Someone found the package at the intersection of Warwick Boulevard and Avenue of the Arts Drive. Holly Tepper with the Newport News police department says there is lots of construction going on in that area.

Around 1:00, the package was determined to be harmless. Police did not know what the package turned out to be.

No one was hurt.
