From Staff Reports
A Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputy found what officials described as a suspicious package on Pennsylvania Avenue at Hope Alley in Frederick about 12:45 p.m. today.
The deputy reported the package, actually a 2-liter plastic soda bottle, to Frederick County Emergency Communications.
The bottle contains an unknown substance that appears to be expanding, according to Dennis Wenner, battalion chief for the division of fire and rescue. Wenner said the bottle is elongating and officials decided to err on the side of caution.
Officials have closed Pennsylvania Avenue and called in bomb technicians to investigate.
