A suspicious package was discovered Monday in the 900 block of Railroad Avenue, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.
The Big Bend Regional Bomb Squad responded to the threat and closed Railroad Avenue between Gaines and Gamble streets from about noon to 3 p.m., TPD said.
A pedestrian found the suspicious package, which John Creamer of TPD described as a small luggage case with wire tubing and keypad inside.
The bomb squad used a robot to pick up the package and place it in a containment vessel, an egg-shaped steel container specially constructed to withstand blasts. They later destroyed the package. The bomb squad has not yet confirmed that the package was an explosive device.
