The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety closed down parts of North Fair Oaks Avenue this morning while responding to a suspicious-looking package found near a bus stop, a city spokesman said.

Just before 9 a.m., safety officials received a report that an unattended suitcase was sitting at North Fair Oaks Avenue, near a Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority bus stop. The county's bomb technicians are on scene, and are pretty confident "nothing is there," Levermore-Rich said.

Still, the suitcase will be "handled with extreme care" and is expected to be destroyed by the bomb squad sometime before noon, according to Levermore-Rich.

Safety officials blocked off North Fair Oaks Avenue between Ahwanee Avenue and East Duane Avenue. The streets should be re-opened sometime around noon.

3. Nobody needs to place suspicious packages. Heightening the public paranoia is enough. n/t
