IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Officials evacuated two buildings on the University of Iowa campus this afternoon after finding a suspicious package and receiving two e-mails stating that four pipe bombs had been placed on university property.
The Johnson County bomb squad destroyed the package and determined it did not contain any explosives, said Charles Green, assistant vice president and director of public safety for the university.
Authorities were continuing their investigation of the e-mails, which said that anyone who approached the devices would activate them and be killed, officials said. The e-mails prompted a campus-wide alert.
