Al Qaeda and why the Serbs were right...

Serbs had to deal with the earliest surge of Islamic fundamentalism and Al Qaeda fighters in Bosnia and Kosovo in the 1990's, before any one else knew what we were dealing with and the Serbs were just accused of "Ethnic Cleansing". The Serbs were vilanized, bombed and embargoed to death.....why? It is now evident that Bosnia is an Al Qaeda transition point to Europe and Kosovo is the gateway to Europe for most of the Heroin being produced in Afghanistan.....Just freakin' wonderful! Thanks NATO! Meanwhile the Serbs are still paying for being so right about Islamic fundamentalism before the rest of Europe and the US found out about it. Maybe it is a lesson in being too early to a party?

4. You know, I think that the usual story is a bit one-sided.

Neither side deserves exculpation either side, but there should be a bit of balance.

But offhand, this isn't it. Sure, I think from all the current Islamist rhetoric that there were jihadniki in Bosnia. But saying that this somehow makes clear the Serb excesses ... naw. It's trying to project back current thought in order to justify past crimes. Non-Islamist Bosnian actions were probably sufficient trigger for the Serb counter-responses and overreactions.

5. Ethnic cleansing

Y'know, Armenian partisans did stab the Turks in the back during WWI, but that wasn't even remotely an excuse for the Turks to commit genocide against them.

The Serbian authorities were accused of ethnic cleansing because they were committing acts of genocide. Whether or not there were members of the target population whose activities merited an armed response is not relevant.

6. I must say that getting your ass stomped by NATO and your country dismembered

is an interesting way to be "right". I mean I don't want to defend NATO or the EUs meddling in the place formerly known as Yugoslavia, but it's hard to see how one can argue that Slobo and the Serbs didn't have a large share in creating the mess too.
