Bellmawr man charged with Glouco bomb threat (Bellmawr, NJ)
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 07:12 AM by IanDB1
Authorities arrested a Bellmawr man yesterday and charged him with calling in a bomb threat on Sept. 11 that forced the evacuation of five Gloucester County court buildings and shut down county government business for several hours.

James L. Ward, 28, of the 200 block of East Browning Road, was arrested near his home. He was charged with initiating a false public alarm and was held at the Gloucester County jail on $50,000 bail. Ward called 911 on the morning of Sept. 11 and reported that a bomb had been placed in Gloucester County Superior Court, authorities said. The county has three courthouse buildings and two other court-related buildings in Woodbury and Deptford. All five were evacuated until bomb-detection dogs could inspect them.

Authorities would not say what they believed Ward's motive to be, except to say that it "was not random." - Troy Graham

A 28-year-old Bellmawr man was arrested Monday and charged in connection with a Sept. 11 bomb scare that shut down much of the downtown and prompted the evacuation of three courthouses and several government buildings.

James L. Ward of East Browning Road was arrested near his home Monday morning by officers from the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

The prosecutor's office did not provide a motive for the bomb threat.

Initially, the FBI was called in to attempt to trace the phone call, officials said at the scene on Sept. 11. However, that technology was not used in leading law enforcement officers to arrest Ward on Monday, Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said.

1. Note: Bellmawr is in New Jersey. So is Gloucester County. The Courier-Post is a NJ paper.
