New commander due to take over Guantanamo around May

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - A new commander of the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay is expected to take over by about May or June, a spokesman for the detention mission said.

Navy Rear Adm. David M. Thomas, who is currently the director of joint operations for the Norfolk, Virginia-based U.S. Fleet Forces Command, will replace Navy Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby, who was posted to the U.S. Navy base in southeast Cuba about six months ago.

Buzby, a one-star admiral, has been assigned to a position of more responsibility in Norfolk as deputy chief of staff for Global Force Management and Joint Force Operations for Fleet Forces Command, Guantanamo spokesman Navy Cmdr. Rick Haupt said late Friday ...
