Despite the presence of UN peacekeepers, massacres are continuing in northeastern Congo. The bodies of dozens more victims of mass slaughter were found earlier this week, many of them children. The discovery has focused international attention on the strife-torn Ituri province.

The United Nations peacekeeping operation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has discovered 65 bodies, mostly children, apparently massacred Monday, a UN spokesman said today.

More than three million have died so far, with countless others displaced, and funny thing, no one seems to notice. Where are the front page stories? If anyone talks about it, the tone is "well, there go those crazy black savages, killing each other again" -- no analysis, no cause and effect, just This Is What Savages Do, Right? I find it astonishing. Though I probably shouldn't.
