An overwhelming majority of Canadians believe the federal Liberals should bring in new laws to protect whistle-blowers in the civil service, a new survey has found.
The survey, conducted by the Environics Research Group for the Public Service Alliance of Canada and released Tuesday, showed 89 per cent of Canadians want the government to draft legislation that would safeguard public sector workers who expose government corruption from reprisals.
“The survey shows that Canadians are looking for transparency and fairness,” Nycole Turmel the National President of the PSAC, a union representing 150,000 civil servants across the country, told globeandmail.com on Tuesday.
