Kuwaiti MPs criticise massive aid to Iraq
Kuwaiti lawmakers yesterday strongly criticised the government for providing 1.5 billion dollars of aid to the emirate's former occupier Iraq, saying Kuwait must be very cautious in dealing with Baghdad.

"We must be cautious in dealing with the Iraqi file. We must not create new substitutes for Saddam Hussein ... The government policy is not right," Shiite MP Hussein al-Qallaf told parliament.

"We say yes to Kuwaiti aid to Iraqi people. But this has to be done in accordance with the Kuwaiti constitution," veteran MP and three-time former speaker Ahmad al-Saadoun told the house.

"How did we spend one billion dollars in Iraq although there is no legitimate government and the country is under foreign occupation," Saadoun added.
