TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNN) -- Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian says he won't be swayed from plans to hold a controversial referendum on China's missile threat despite a stinging rebuke from the U.S. president.

George W. Bush on Tuesday warned Taipei against holding a referendum that could antagonize China, saying he wanted to maintain the status quo between the two rivals.

A defensive referendum is for avoiding war and to help keep the Taiwanese people free of fear," Chen said at a meeting with U.S. Congressman Dan Burton in Taipei.

"We have no intention to change the status quo, but nor do we allow the status quo being forced to change. We want to maintain a status quo of peace and stability instead of one of missile deployment and military threat."

The country where millions are starving, the country where workers cannot organise and strike for more pay and better working conditions, the country that allows homophobic judges to use a vague law prohibiting "immoral conduct" to jail gays, the country that Chumbawamba hates, and the country with a censorship firewall.

This is my first comment in the forum.
Yes ,we have ten millions people who are starving.And many children can`t get free and good compulsory education.Many peasant workers can`t get pay for their work.There are too many problems in China.
In fact ,the homophobic judges had been deleted and we gays (I am a gay)are not afraid that we may be sent in jails. But the government don`t give us basic human rights.We have no rights to orgnize the gay NGO like HRC in the US.
The censorship firewall you referred is ture ,so many website like VOA or other site about 64 etc are not log on by me.
